The Gull's Call - Jan/Feb/Mar 2025
AssociationNews Cantamar by Kerwin Allen and Barbara Caulfield W E HOPE YOU HAD A JOYFUL HOLIDAY SEASON and are greeting the new year, and longer days, with a renewed spirit. Thank you to those who provided holiday cheer with their lights and other decorations. CANTAMAR PICNIC IS BACK Resurrected after a hiatus of nearly a decade, the Cantamar HOA brought back the Annual Family Picnic on October 5th of this year. Traditionally, this picnic has been held in September and October, when we can usually count on the “Indian Summer” warmth. The picnic included pizza and sandwiches, face-painting, a cotton candy machine, and a Cantamar history trivia contest, which was quite competitive. It was a very warm day, so thankfully a few homeowners had tents to help keep everyone in the shade and reasonably comfortable.

I was so proud and happy to see our community come together, break bread and enjoy each other’s company. A special thanks to Meggie Kang, a Cantamar resident who was so instrumental in every aspect of the event. While this was our first such picnic in a long time, this resurrected tradition is sure to be back in future years! OTHER NEWS Cantamar residents also got together in August for the second annual National Night Out with several officers from the Alameda Police Department. They provided information on service calls in our neighborhood and answered questions. The second phase of our PSL (Private Sewer Lateral) project will begin this spring. It will involve homes on Miranda, Ferro, Cotella, and 78-180 Ratto. Some other recent improvements include concrete shaving to reduce tripping hazards and repainting of the red curbs. New "No Parking" signs are also on order. Finally, there are two open positions on the Cantamar Board of Directors for the 2025-2027 term. Information was mailed in late November and applications are due February 25, 2025. As we begin a new year, a continuing reminder to keep our neighborhood safe by looking out for each of your neighbors and to follow speed and parking guidelines in our Cantamar community.
Cantamar Picnic 2024 by Barbara Caulfield
The primary purpose of the event is to come together as a community, get to know, or reconnect with our neighbors, and share news about the development. The Cantamar board feels that a community that is tight-knit is generally safer and provides a more enjoyable place to live and raise our children. Although the tally of attendees is unofficial, it is believed that approximately 50 homeowners and children showed up to take part in the festivities throughout the event. Every cul-du-sac within Cantamar was represented at the picnic, and every Cantamar board member was present and assisted in the setup and dismantling of the event space (the parklet at the end of Ratto Road/Souza). I have it on good authority that everyone had a wonderful time!
