The Gull's Call - Oct/Nov/Dec 2025

AssociationNews Pelican Bay by Steve Gee S O MUCH FUN WAS HAD AT THE ANNUAL PELICAN Bay Community picnic. This year there were a ton of new activities – an arts and crafts area, giant Jenga, a raffle and more, along with our usual jumpy house. The usual hot dogs and burgers expertly cooked up by chefs Alan Lim and Eric Nakahara. Lots of yummy side dishes and desserts were brought by the homeowners. This year a new Social Committee planned the picnic - Cathy Leong, Rosalyn Moya, Michael Etchells, Alan Lim, and Eric Nakahara. They did such a fantastic job. You could tell so much care and attention to detail went into the picnic. And we have 15 more volunteers to help next year which is much appreciated! We would like to thank our generous donors for their raffle prizes: • Julie Nakahara, Pasadena Humane, Soft cooler with lots of doddie treats & swag. • Jeff Chean, Groundworks coffee, 2 gift bags of coffee & Groundworks swag. • Mr. Espresso, Gift basket with coffee & other coffee items. A huge THANK YOU to our retiring Social Committee of Cathy Leong (will she really be retiring???), Kevin Leong, Chester Polmgren, and Jutta Polmgren. These four have been diligently planning and hosting the picnic since Pelican Bay’s inception nearly 40 years ago! For their exemplary service to the Pelican Bay community, they were presented a plaque which will be mounted on our picnic table. Did you know we spend thousands of dollars every year on mailings? In this digital age, that’s just unnecessary. California law requires every homeowner to “opt-in” to receiving email communications. Soon, we will be sending out (via snail mail as required) letters to all homeowners we have on record as receiving official communications via mail. If you receive this and you can receive email, please return the form with your opt-in to “email only”. By the way, a “homeowner” is anyone on the deed. We need opt-ins from all individuals listed on the deed. If you’re not sure, email PLB@harborbay.org. Thank you.

Sandpiper Cove by Matthew Harms A s summer transitions into fall and our children return to school, I am happy to share this quarter's updates for Sandpiper Cove. Our toddler park continues to be a beloved focal point of our association; neighbors leaving toys behind for others to play with is unique and fosters community spirit. However, we ask everyone’s help ensuring this remains safe: please avoid leaving broken toys behind, as they can pose hazards to children and require removal. Thank you for helping keep our park both welcoming and safe! The Board is actively working on modernizing our Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs), which have not been updated in years. These documents guide our community’s rules and governance. A new ballot package will arrive soon —please vote promptly and return it. A quorum ensures we avoid sending out reminder mailings that will cost our community unnecessarily. Let’s keep our community safe, involved, and vibrant. Thank you for your continued collaboration, and together, we look forward to a beautiful fall in Sandpiper Cove. Seastrand by Rick Harkins W e hope you are doing well and enjoying the last bit of summer. The Seastrand Board would like to update you on a number of projects occurring in the neighborhood. NEW BOARD MEMBER First of all, we welcome Gabe Sibley to the Seastrand Board. Gabe is married, a father of three, and has been a Seastrand homeowner since 2021. Gabe has several years experience in executive positions in technology and academic sectors and joins other Board members Ron Matthews, Benn Ackley, Bill Paisley, and Rick Harkins. REPAVING Sea View Parkway will undergo repaving from Sheffield Road to Tralee Lane this fall as part of the City of Alameda’s Pavement Management Project. Parking and access will be impacted and the street will be closed for
