Cantamar by Barbara Ann Caulfield G REETINGS FROM YOUR CANTAMAR HOA BOARD. Summer is nearly here and we all look forward to enjoying some time outside. You may have noticed that we replaced the dock at the end of Ratto Road, as the wood was rotting, making it un safe. Now you can safely sit and watch the lagoon life and feed the occasional duck. Please no bread! Did you know ducks enjoy frozen peas, chopped lettuce, watermelon, and rolled oats? Of course, they also eat cracked corn and birdseed. With the good weather, many homeowners think of mak ing improvements or modifications to their landscaping and painting the exterior of their homes. If you're consid ering any architectural changes, big or small, please re member to fill out the necessary application at harborbay. org/archapp. Proactive involvement is key to maintaining the aesthetic charm that defines Cantamar. Please be aware that the curb strip plant areas in front of our homes is community property, and landscaping and care is the responsibility of the community's landscape service. Please do not prune, replant, or otherwise modify the trees and shrubs in the curb strip planter beds in Cantamar. We will again be participating in National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, August 6th, at 6:00 p.m. NNO is a community building campaign that promotes police/community part nerships. We will have drinks and snacks at the parklet at 100 Ratto Road. Last year officers from the Alameda PD and the Alameda FD came to speak about current issues. For kids, big and little, the FD brought a fire truck to ex plore. We hope to see you there. Did you know that Alameda Police Department has di vided Alameda into "beats" and holds regular meetings to update residents on police events in their neighborhood? Cantamar is in Beat 34 and the next meeting is scheduled for September 24th, at 6:00 p.m., at the Harbor Bay Isle Community Center. Finally, the first third of our sewer lateral project was started in March. Sewer laterals on Ratto Road, Souza Court, and Duarte Court were checked, and those that

LANDSCAPING • If you notice failing plants or trees, or evidence of breaks in the drip system in our complex, please notify our Association Manager. • After requests by homeowners for more plants near their residences, the Landscape Committee is in the process of developing a plant pallet with plants that are colorful, hardy, and low-maintenance. • At their own expense, homeowners may request plants be installed in common areas near their resi dences, following review and approval by the Land scape Committee. However, plantings will be done by our landscape contractor only during scheduled fall plantings, and the plants will be maintained by them, since the plants in common areas become property of our Homeowners Association. The Landscape Committee has several volunteer opportu nities for homeowners to participate in maintaining and improving the look of our common areas, such as reading 1-3 water meters each week, taking a photo of the meter, and then submitting the photo for recordkeeping purpos es. Volunteers can also help in identifying areas that need attention during the fall planting, as well as participating in semi-annual irrigation system check with the Irrigation Technologist to look for problems with our drip system. Contact our Association Manager if you are interested in volunteering. BUILDINGS AND FRONT DOOR PAINT COLORS As you may have heard, Kelly-Moore, our paint vendor, has ceased all operations and closed its stores. Thus, our exterior and front door approved colors are no longer available. A committee is looking at how another paint company can closely match our approved colors. More information will be forthcoming for homeowners who want to paint their front doors as well as coordinating colors for the next group of homes scheduled to be painted. PRIVATE SEWER LATERAL PROJECT The Board appreciates residents’ patience with the ongo ing PSL work, with lots of equipment on our streets and in guest parking places, as well as significant noise at times. We are pleased to report that the work continues to be on schedule and within budget, with a projected comple tion date by the end of August, pending EBMUD’s testing to validate the repairs for compliance with their mandate.
