BOARD MEETINGS A reminder that our Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 26th at 6:30 PM, and our next regular Board Meeting is scheduled for May 28, 2026. We hope to see all our neighbors there! Headlands by Barbara Curtis A FTER THE FEBRUARY RAINSTORMS, OUR HEADLANDS neighborhood is looking sparkling fresh and green! Spring is the perfect time not just for blooming flowers, but also for giving our homes a little TLC before summer arrives. Winter winds may have filled your gutters with twigs, debris, and even seashells dropped by local seagulls. Before “April showers” arrive, be sure your downspouts are clear—clogged gutters can lead to water pooling. It’s also a great opportunity to boost your curb appeal the easy way by adding a fresh layer of mulch and a few pots of seasonal flowers, like pansies or petunias. Exciting local events are coming up for our community! On Saturday, April 18th, from 12:00–3:00 PM, join the Spring Shindig & Earth Day Celebration at Alameda Point Gym & Multipurpose Field, featuring community organizations, demos, crafts, jumpers, music, food, and much more. On Saturday, May 16th, celebrate National Kids to Parks Day at Jean Sweeney Park with crafts, Zumba, STEM activities, yoga, snacks, and music, presented by ARPD and the Alameda Free Library. Don’t miss the Sandcastle Contest at Crown Beach on June 20th—let’s organize a Headlands team to create a sand sculpture and take home a win! Starlight Movies in the Park will also continue this summer. Get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and make the most of our beautiful neighborhood!

Moving forward in 2026, our Board will be assessing the possibility of updating the paint color of our trim as well as considering allowing homeowners to apply stained sealant to their cedar shingles similar to our neighbors down the street at Seastrand. BROKEN WATER MAIN At the end of last year, we experienced a broken water main on our private drive, Harbor Road. EBMUD re sponded and spent two days repairing the break. Here is EBMUDs response to inquires made by our Board: “Regarding your request for assurance that another water main break will not occur after the new asphalt is in stalled, it is important to note that, while EBMUD main tains and monitors its water distribution system, it is not possible to guarantee that a water main will or will not experience a future failure. Underground utilities are sub ject to a variety of factors, including age, soil conditions, and external influences, which can affect performance over time. You also asked whether there is a way to evaluate the wa ter system beneath Harbor Road. While EBMUD conducts regular inspections and assessments as part of its ongoing operations, it is not feasible to perform a systemwide or corridor-wide inspection solely in advance of paving work, as this would be time-consuming, costly, and ultimately non-conclusive. Such efforts would require extensive excavation or testing that does not reliably predict future main performance. With that said, EBMUD does take water main breaks seri ously. The District monitors the condition of its pipelines and prioritizes replacements based on pipe health. Based on our review of available records, the water mains in the general area are currently rated in good condition. We use a variety of methods and technologies, including satellite based leak detection, to identify potential issues. Once pipes are identified as being in poor condition, they are proactively replaced as part of our pipeline replacement program. Our goal is to prevent main breaks and avoid costly emergency repairs. Please be assured that following any EBMUD repair work, the District restores street pav ing and repairs concrete that is disturbed as part of that work.”
