CommunityNews Shred, Recycle & Give Back by Jacqui Galvez Vasquez T HANK YOU, HARBOR BAY, FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION! Our Summer Document Shredding, E-Waste Recycling, and Salvation Army Donation Drive-Thru Event was a huge success! Held on June 27, 2026, at the vacant corner lot at Island Drive and Mecartney Road, the larger location and multiple entrances helped move more than 500 vehicles through the event stations. Shred-It collected 48 96-gallon totes of documents for secure shredding—equivalent to approximately 480 bankers’ boxes of paper. Recycle 1234 collected 8,550 pounds of e-waste, helping keep these materials out of landfills, while The Salvation Army collected an impressive 5,701 pounds of clothing, housewares, and furniture. Mark your calendars for our next Drive-Thru Event on October 10, 2026 ! In addition to shredding, e-waste recycling, and Salvation Army donations, there will also be a collection station for canned food donations benefiting the Alameda Food Bank. 18th Annual Parking Lot Sale a Success by Jacqui Galvez Vasquez O N AUGUST 8, 2026, CHBIOA HOSTED ITS 18th Annual Parking Lot Sale. Despite the chilly weather, vendors and shoppers turned out for a fun day of bargain hunting, neighborly mingling, and discovering treasures of all kinds. Originally created to give Harbor Bay residents an opportunity to hold a “garage sale” when their individual project association does not allow them, the event welcomed many first-time sellers this year. The Salvation Army was also on hand to collect donations and unsold items, receiving an impressive 4,527 pounds of clothing, housewares, hard goods, and furniture to support individuals and families in need.
