AssociationNews Bayview Harbor by Anisa Dominguez, Architectural Standards Manager DEALING WITH BACKYARD FLOODING? W ITH THE RAINY SEASON APPROACHING, NOW is a good time to take a look at your backyard and address any areas where water tends to collect. Standing water can be frustrating and, if left unresolved, may contribute to damage to foundation, landscaping, fences, patios, or other improvements. Before making changes to address drainage or flooding, please contact the appropriate department to discuss your concerns. Do not alter drainage patterns, grading, or other common-area features without first obtaining approval. Changes made to redirect water can unintentionally affect neighboring properties. Homeowners should also check their property after significant rain and report any recurring drainage concerns. Taking care of small issues early can help prevent larger problems later.
THINKING ABOUT CHANGING YOUR FENCE? A fence can make a big difference in backyard privacy and appearance. However, any change to an existing fence— including raising, lowering, replacing, or modifying its height—requires agreement from all affected neighbors and Architectural approval before work begins. Before making changes, homeowners should discuss the proposed modification with their neighbors and obtain their agreement. The project must then be submitted through the Architectural Application process and approved before work starts. All proposed changes must comply with applicable City of Alameda, Bayview Harbor, and Community Architectural Rules and Standards, including requirements for height, materials, design, and placement. PLAN FIRST, BUILD SECOND Please make sure the appropriate approvals are in place before starting work. Contact: BVH@harborbay.org or architecture@harborbay.org. Submit an Architectural Application:harborbay.org/archapp.
