CHBIOA staff were present to facilitate the event. CLASS (Citizens’ League for Airport Safety and Serenity) was also present to provide information on the proposed expansion of Oakland International Airport, officially named OAK Terminal Modernization and Development Project. Jon Hamilton, CLASS President, answered questions from homeowners and informed them about the comment period for the draft environmental impact report and its upcoming deadline, which has now been extended to October 16, 2023.

Staff has been researching several types of equipment and recently conducted two demonstration and training events with STIHL Power Equipment and Generac Power Systems with their Mean Green Mowing Machine (the world’s first commercial zero-turn mower).

CHBIOA Maintenance staff completed extensive training on the newest models of battery powered mowers and professional landscape equipment. The training consisted of environmental residential equipment operator safety and preventive maintenance procedures. Transitional education was the focus moving from gas powered mowers to battery operated equipment, working safer, smarter, and efficiently in a commercial and residential setting such as Harbor Bay Isle. Moving forward is not as easy as it would sound, finding the right tools for the job is a priority as there are many brands of battery-operated tools on the market. STIHL equipment has been the front runner for the Community as the equipment is easy to use, charge, and the serviceability is excellent. The Community of Harbor Bay Isle continues to be the leader in safety and environmental preservation and looks forward to the elimination of all gas-powered equipment. We look forward to the future as we continue to move in a positive environmental direction.
