contributions, whether large or small, are what make our neighborhood vibrant and beautiful. The collaboration, friendliness, and neighborly care exhibited by each of you truly make our community a special place to call home. We wish everyone a joyful and peaceful holiday season and a Happy New Year! Harbor Pointe by Luci Ackhart, Board Vice President A BIG WELCOME TO OUR NEW ASSOCIATION Manager, Samantha (Sami) Soogian! She has been a great help to our association in the brief time she’s been here, managing to tie up the loose ends of the Private Sewer Lateral (PSL) project. We know our board is very grateful for her assistance and dynamic personality! The holidays are over and we usher in a brand new year. In Harbor Pointe, this will be a unique year as the long awaited PSL project begins. Flyers from the construction company have already been left at front doors and the mail kiosks notifying the residents of what will happen in 2024, and how it will impact our daily lives along with their project website. Waterworks has a baseline schedule and is endeavoring to keep disruption to a minimum. They have established a website for us to view the schedule, construction status and work to be done for specific ad dresses. However, they will be leaving notifications to residents in each of the five zones being impacted 3 weeks before, 1 week before, the day before, and the day of, so we will not be blindsided. The construction company will make every effort not to inconvenience anyone as much as they can, but sometimes things may not go according to plan and they are ready to accommodate us as best they are able. Once the project is underway, Single Points of Contact (SPOCs) will be available to answer any questions or concerns. The work that was done on this most expensive project took a great deal of time and input from our board and volunteers who stepped up and shared the burden. We all hope nothing of this magnitude or expense ever comes up again! Because of the cost of reroofing with shakes, a proposal was made to look at less expensive alternatives. More over, asphalt composite shingles have more fire resis tance, so would be another benefit for our closely built

homes. In our October meeting, photos and information about the product was shared. It was also suggested that a small map of the garage addresses be placed at the Harbor Road driveway because many delivery folks have a problem finding the correct address, especially for homes not facing a designated street. I will not be volunteering or running for next year’s Board, so I truly hope some of our neighbors will be available and ready to serve. We really need five board members, but have been running with only four. During this time we were fortunate that there were no tie votes. Currently, I don’t know which members are choosing to remain on the board, so it’s imperative we have some new folks to volunteer their time. Otherwise, contracts cannot be signed (like landscaping) and decisions cannot be made (maintenance issues). Moreover, I am not sure that I will continue to write our column for the The Gull's Call. I have written it on and off since 1986, and I think someone else should offer their services, so that Harbor Pointe folks know what is hap pening. Going forward, other homeowners need to be involved in the life of our HOA if it’s to be successful and satisfy the needs of our complex. Please join us at the Annual Meeting on March 7, 2024, to enjoy food, drinks, and good conversation with your neighbors (it will be a hybrid meeting for those of you who cannot attend in person). At this meeting, Board members will be announced. We still will continue to have hybrid meetings in the future, but this is the one that is the most convivial and interactive with other homeown ers, both new and old. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible! Let’s make 2024 a great year for our neighborhood!
